Minister of State for Interior, Talal Chaudhry, has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of providing a soft corner for terrorists. He highlighted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is focused on talking about tribal councils rather than addressing rising terrorism. Chaudhry noted that the PTI did not attend a crucial meeting discussing the nation’s security situation.
Chaudhry emphasized that KP has experienced the most terrorist incidents in the country. Instead of finding solutions to combat terrorism, the provincial government is concerned with tribal meetings. He confirmed that proposals to curb terrorism have been received and that the federal government will engage the provincial government when necessary. He stated that foreign policy is the responsibility of the federal government.
In contrast, KP Information Advisor Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif praised the federal government for starting dialogue with Afghanistan. He mentioned that including all stakeholders in this process is essential, especially the KP government. Saif argued that ignoring the provincial government shows a lack of seriousness, as KP is on the frontline against terrorism.
Furthermore, Saif highlighted that the KP government had sent terms of reference (ToRs) to the federal government three months ago regarding dialogue with Afghanistan. He criticized the federal government for not responding, claiming that their inaction demonstrates indifference. He advocated for urgent talks with Afghanistan to address deteriorating conditions, as the situation continues to worsen in the region.
