ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Thursday expressed displeasure over the conduct of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and summoned its managing director with other officials in the next meeting for an explanation.
The committee – met under the chairmanship of MNA Muhammad Junaid Anwaar Chaudhry – discussed the privilege motion raised by MNA Chaudhary Bilal Ahmad Virk regarding indifferent attitude of PIA staffs with him. The committee was not satisfied with the replies given by the PIA and directed the concerned officials to bring all related information of the incident before the committee in next meeting.
The committee members said PIA’s managing director should also be present to explain the matter before the committee and all departments should provide proper attention to the parliamentarians under the law of the land. Committee member Shagufta Jumani said the PIA does not respect the members of parliament and she will also move a privilege motion against it in the National Assembly session.
Discussing the privilege motion moved by Tahir Iqbal on non-action of a letter written to Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development Ministry’s secretary and Workers Welfare Fund Secretary Qasim Khan regarding irregular appointments, promotions, the ministry defied the recommendations of parliamentarians.
The officials of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources Development said that they respect the parliamentarians and will process all the matter according to the law.
